The Duffy & Simon two-week seasonal Clerkship program has wrapped up for another year. This clerkship gives the opportunity to law students approaching the end of their studies to explore and apply their degrees to real life matters.
Over the two weeks the clerks go through a rotation. This is where they shadow several lawyers including the principals of the firm. Throughout they found themselves involved in drafting letters, Wills & Powers of Attorney, discussing issues that arise across a range of matters, and sitting in on mediations, hearings and judgements.
This clerkship allowed them to explore the different practice areas and to develop where their interest may lie after graduation.
We were incredibly impressed with this year’s clerks. Their eagerness to explore and learn throughout was very prominent.
To grasp an understanding of how valuable this program is to future lawyers thinking of undertaking this clerkship we spoke with our 2023 clerks.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Duffy & Simon and am so grateful for the opportunity to apply my degree to real cases with real clients. Over my two weeks I got to work on a range of matters with varying clients, from individuals to large businesses and companies. I found it so valuable to see how the law operates in practice and the complexities that you don’t get to see whilst only studying at university.
Through my rotations across the practice areas, I had the opportunity to complete a range of tasks including researching and drafting letters to clients, attending a mediation and many client meetings, listening to a judgement and subpoena hearing, and drafting Wills and Powers of Attorney. It has been such a pleasure being able to work and learn in such a positive and supportive environment. I am now very much looking forward to my future career in the legal industry!

Completing a clerkship at Duffy and Simon has been an invaluable experience. From the minute you step foot in Duffy and Simon, you are made to feel welcome and supported. You are provided with the opportunity to put the knowledge of theoretical legal concepts taught in law school, into practice. The opportunity to work in multiple practice areas allows you to gain an insight into what area of law you may wish to pursue in the future. I am extremely grateful to, and wish to thank Duffy and Simon for giving me this opportunity to gain an insight into the inner workings of a law firm. For anyone wishing to apply for a clerkship, I highly recommend Duffy and Simon.

My clerkship with Duffy & Simon Lawyers has been an amazing experience, and I am so grateful that I was selected for the 2023 Clerkship Program. These past two weeks have given me valuable insight into the daily operations of a law firm across four different areas (Property, Commercial & Litigation, Wills & Estates, and Family). I have loved the opportunity to apply my university knowledge in a practical setting. A big thank you to all of the staff at Duffy & Simon, who have been incredibly supportive and provided me with guidance and feedback along the way. I highly recommend this program to any penultimate or final year students seeking a personalised experience in a well-regarded firm.
